ISO certification for the HSE management system of the Rehden and Jemgum storage facilities

Foundation for the HSE management of all companies of the GAZPROM Germania Group

Kassel, 5 March 2019. astora GmbH & Co. KG (Kassel), the operator of the German Rehden and Jemgum natural gas storage facilities and a wholly owned subsidiary of GAZPROM Germania since 1 January 2018, has received a certification in accordance with international standards for its health, safety and environment (HSE) management system. This certification demonstrates that astora’s system meets the requirements set out in international standards for occupational health and safety management systems (OHSAS 18001), environmental management (ISO 14001) and energy management (ISO 50001). On March 5th, DEKRA Certification GmbH awarded the certificate to astora’s executive management in Kassel.

Pioneer in the German oil and gas industry

astora is therefore one of the first German companies in the oil and gas industry with a certified HSE management system. By pursuing this initiative, the GAZPROM Germania Group, the owner of several natural gas storage facilities, is setting an example not only for supply security in Germany, but also for its employees and the locations. astora assumed the operational management of the Rehden and Jemgum locations in January 2018. Together these sites have a total working gas volume of more than five billion cubic metres.

astora has been responsible for the HSE function of the entire GAZPROM Germania Group (GPG) starting in 2017. Since then, it has developed the Group’s corporate HSE standards. Last year astora established the HSE management system based on its proven HSE processes and documents as well as the many years of experience of its employees. DEKRA Certification GmbH conducted its audit at the end of 2018.

“Achieving this certification of the HSE management system means that GAZPROM Germania and astora have reached a milestone in their operation of natural gas storage facilities. This accomplishment benefits not only our employees and contractual partners, but also the environment,” said astora Managing Director Aleksey Mochalkin.
