General Information
The SEFE Storage natural gas storage facility in Rehden in northern Germany is one of the largest pore storage facilities in Western Europe with its working gas capacity of around four billion cubic metres on an underground area of around eight square kilometres. It has around a fifth of the total storage capacity available in Germany and therefore makes a sustainable contribution to the security of supply of the country.
Wintershall has been producing natural gas from the natural gas deposit since the 1950s. The deposit was then converted into a storage facility and put into operation in 1993. The annual consumption of around two million family homes can now be stored at a depth of 2000 metres.
The Rehden storage facility offers our customers the ideal basis for their trading activities since natural gas can be transported from here throughout Europe as well as flexibly be injected and withdrawn. The storage facility is directly connected to the pipeline network of GASCADE Gastransport GmbH via the MIDAL (Mitte-Deutschland-Anbindungsleitung) natural gas pipeline and is geographically close to the RHG (Rehden-Hamburg gas pipeline) and NEL (Nordeuropäische Erdgasleitung) pipelines. It, thus, plays a central role in supplying Germany and Western Europe with energy.
